July 17, 2008 - Wealth of Information on the Environment
Many thanks to Margaret Fielding who gathered a wealth of information on Septic Systems, caring for the Lake Shorelines
& alternative cleaning products that are safe for our Lake Environment. This information is collected with the diligent and
much appreciated work done by Ril Lake Environment Committee to keep our Lake natural, clean and healthy.
Have your Septic pumped out every 3-5 years depending on use. At the time of pumping, it would be a good idea to have a general inspection of the tank.
Here are suggested numbers for your easy reference:
Pumping Only:
Baysville Sanitation Phil Cote 705-767-2350
Doreset Sanitation 705-767-3292
Septic Installers
Mike Jackson 705-767-3315

Brigg's (Huntsville) 705-789-2121
Tim Green (Huntsville) 705-789-7518
Dorset Powerline 705-766-9546
Emergency Plan if Septic System is leaking or backing up:
Arrange to have the tank pumped out as soon as possible as the holding tank will support your need for 3-4 days till the tank is fixed.

February 9, 2008 - The Muskoka Heritage Foundation Tree & Shrub Sale
The Muskoka Heritage Foundation will once again be holding their native tree and shrub sale on Saturday, May 10, 2008.
As usual Ril Lake is participating in this event. Our Ril Lake Association coordinator is Casey Cook, who will pick up the plant stock on the afternoon of Friday, May 9th or the morning of Saturday,
May 10th and transport it to our Lake where our Ril Lake community members who have ordered plants can pick them up. The order form will contain a check box for pick up at that location.
All orders will be pre-bagged and ready for distribution. All plant material is native to Muskoka and much of it is ideal for shoreline areas.
This sale is an excellent opportunity for people to enhance or renaturalize their shoreline at low cost.
Ril Lake 1st Biotech meeting was a great success

Wil Brunner, Biological Monitoring Technician
District of Muskoka
Where: The Cooks - 1040 Ril Cove Road
Date: Sunday August 12, 2007
Time: Starting at 10:00 am to 10:30am
We will be having our Benthic Testing ( "Life on the Lake Bottom, or Bugs
in the Mud" ) done on Ril Lake this Sunday, and anyone
(Young & Old )is WELCOME to attend as either observer or volunteer.
Wil Brunner and I will be gathering samples at a couple of locations on the
Lake, bringing them back to the Cook's dock and Wil is going to
guide us through this first step to the process of cleaning up and
monitoring our lake. "Bugs in the Mud" are the first part of the food
chain ecosystem, and a good indicator of Lake Water health.
All observations will be recorded and posted on the Ril Lake Web Site as
soon as possible.
Thanks, and look forward to seeing you there !!!
