Founded in 1973, the Ril Lake Association is a not-for-profit group of cottage and home owners on Ril Lake, who function as a common voice in discusions with the Township of Lake of Bays and to
act in other ways to foster a sense of community that promote and encourage conservation. Environmental preservation is a community effort. Fresh air, pure water, wildlife, natural habitat and
surroundings are irreplaceable. They are ours to enjoy, and ours to protect.
Some of the accomplishements of your assocation are:
* The numbering of lots and naming of roads, assisting emergency vehicle drivers and other visitors to find their way.
* The Ril Lake Directory, which was first published in 1975 and has been updated frequently since then. This listing of cottage owner, home address, and phone numbers is
valuable in case of storm damage, break-ins, or other emergency, all Association members receive a copy.
* The installation of road signs, adding to a sense of community and pride in our lake as well as providing direction to all visitors.
* The development of the Neighbourhood Watch Program, with signs to discurage thieves and and working together to report suspicious activity to the O.P.P.
* Ongoing representation of Ril Lake with local and regional organizations including the Township of Lake of Bays, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, the
OPP, other Cottage Associations and the Federation of Ontario Cottages Associations (FOCA).
* An undertaking by a committee of the association to draft a Ril Lake plan, for discussion and adoption by the Association and the presentation to the Township to become part
of its Official Plan. A lake plan can include measures to ensure sustainable development and other measures as may generally be agreed. The first step in the lake planning process is the survey
of lake owners, distributed in August 2002, the results of which was presented at the 2003 Annual meeting.
